I wake on the middle of the night. I swear I feel your heart beating next to mine. I reach over to the empty bed. Where there's still so much left unsaid. And as I call to you. This disappearing man. From that very first kiss. Had you leading me on against my wish. You drain the wine form my sacred glass. I made one last toast before I took my last. But all my lovers pass. Like ghosts sleeping in my bed. I've known barmy days. But I'm haunted by these sleepless nights. Cut the corners of the darkness grey. Yet I find myself reaching out in vain in my plight. And as I call to you. This disappearing man.

Awnings torn away. Gonna make it if I play the game. Give us one more day. This wagon's good for hauling rain. I caught you hanging up the telephone. In the air the scent of your Camonal. Gonna make a diamond rust. Fortune's down on us. I heard you whisper on the telephone. In hushed tones, you thought there's no-one home. But I should have seen it coming. I should have seen it coming my way. I caught you hanging up the telephone. Can't really blame you for being gone. But I should have seen it coming. I should have seen it coming my way.

Girlfriend on the train. Our love is on the lame. Trying to find a way to make it through to you. Girlfriend on the train. Smiling through the pain. Trying to find a way to make it through to you. Oh Girlfriend on the train. Girlfriend on the train. Our love is on the wain. Trying to find a way to make it through to you, Girlfriend on the train. Smiling through the pain. Oh. Sitting on a midnight train pretending everything's ok. Sitting on a midnight train heading god knows where or when. Girlfriend on the train. Baby on the way. Trying to find a way to make it through to you. Girlfriend on the train. Smiling through the pain. Oh Sitting on a midnight train pretending everything's ok. Sitting on a midnight train heading god knows where or when.

Lost Cowboy 02:59
I’m a lost cowboy, Who wandered off the track. Stumbled into town With a heavy burden on my back I’m a lost cowboy Who escaped the fires of hell. My guns are full of dust And my soul is just an empty shell. I’m a lost cowboy With vengeance on my mind I’m gonna find my girl And show her that she’s only mine. I’m a lost cowboy Who’s running out of time When the smoke clears from the ground You’ll wish you never crossed the line. If love is the game, you messed with my aim If love is the game, I’ll pay for the pain If love is the game, you messed with my aim If love is the game, you’ll never forget this cowboy’s name. I'm a lost cowboy.

If revolution is where this must end. We've burned all our heroes and cancelled all of our friends. When pain knows no pleasure, it's a folly to repent. Yeah at the break of dawn, I keep a little light on. Yeah at the break if dawn. When sunshine comes along. And my demons have all gone. We're raised up, knocked down, fall back. I swapped a bier for this song. When we know which stone has been slung. Tell the actors the party has begun. 'Cause at the break of dawn. Raised up, burned out, fall back. Let in the pandemonium. Called out, burned off, peeled back. There's a diamond in the storm. Yeah at the break of dawn. I keep a little light on. Yeah at the break of dawn.

Semaphore 02:10
Send me out a sign, Or a Semaphore Let me know we're alright, Like it was before. Like we were before last night. Send me out a light, Like a pulsing star. Let me know we're alright, Like it was before, Like we were before last night.

Camping 'round the church. Our tents between the tombstones. It rained so fucking hard. Our skin stuck at the elbows. Quiet country road. We're in the back with Beaster on the radio. Volume set to max. I cut the lights as I put her into cruise control. No-one'll believe what we saw there. Paying for the gas. With copper coins collected in a glass jar. Drawing circles in the dust. Of what we saw. Like tiny psychos on the floor. They won't believe what we saw there.

I got my eye. On the lonely. Yeah what can I say. I'm heading out. On the loneliest track ever made. In a penny, in a pound. Throw it all around. What can I say now? Yeah what can I say now? I'm in trouble, I'm in deep. Running on my feet. What can I say now? Yeah what can I say now? I've got my eye. On the lonely. Yeah what can I say. Yeah I'm heading out. On the loneliest track ever made. In a penny, in a pound. Throw it all around. What can I say now? Yeah what can I say now? I'm in trouble. I'm in strife. Running for my life. Yeah what can I say now? Yeah what can I say now? I was on the run. Hurting everyone. In a penny, in a pound. Throw it all around. What can I say now? Yeah what can I say now? I'm in trouble. I'm in deep. Right up to my feet. What can I say now? Yeah what can I say now? I got my eye. On the lonely. Yeah what can I say?

Some cuts don't show. They sit beneath and burn. I hope you know. That some cuts don't show. Some people grow. Some others stay just the same forever. I hope you know. That some people grow. My love it grows. Each day, stronger with you. I hope you know. My love it grows. Some pain don't show.

Sputnik and love-sick and boots on the ground. Don't let it mess you around High kicks and slap-stick and horse around. Don't let it mess you around. I can feel it. It's gonna mess you around. Hang nails and hand grenades and pawn the silver. Don't let it mess you around. Cosplay and making hay and curse the children. It's gonna mess you around. I can feel it. Don't let it mess you around. It's gonna mess you around. I can feel it. Don't let it mess you around. Gonna rip up your crown, Gonna run you aground. Gonna derail everything that you did. Gonna burst out the ground. Like a love-sick clown. That's off the collar. Horse-cat and mole-rat and splice your Kindle. It's gonna mess you around. I can feel it. Face up and numb-nuts and fence the children. It's gonna run us aground. I can feel it. It's gonna run us aground. Tip your hat to the century maker. Don't let it mess you around. I can feel it. Picks your pocket while he feeds your dementia. Don't let it mess you around. I can feel it. Don't let it mess you around.

Together forever, till death do us claim I'm gonna make it somehow. Forever and ever, through hell fire or flame I'm gonna make it somehow. Oh, move away! The lights in the valley are getting closer with each day. Oh, move away! Our house is on fire and there's little left to save. Together forever, no matter the shame The horses are restless tonight. Forever and ever, through high winds and rains Shadows on the doorstep outside Oh, move away! There's blood in the valley and there's a war on the way. Oh, move away! This house is on fire and there's nothing we can do but pray. We reached the zenith and now the fall, The trumpet goes La Di Da. Oh move away! There's a fire in the meadows, it's getting closer with each day. Oh, move away! Our house is on fire, but there's nothing left to save anyway.

Remember the time we broke into your parking lot I painted your name across the walls We had to run when the guard came with his gun A can of red clutched in my hand Remember the time we raided your father's wine Mixing reds and whites for the coming night Chappeau! Chappeau! Till the sun rose in the sky And we heard his car pulling up the drive We were young Yeah we were young and stupid We were only human, can't you see? We were young Yeah we were young and stupid We were only human. Let us be! Remember the time we snuck into a drive-in We kissed and screamed at the blood on the screen When the credits ran, you sleeping in my hands And I dared not move until they brought up the lights. We were young Yeah we were young and stupid We were only human, can't you see? We were young Yeah we were young and stupid We were only human. Let us be! Remember that night lying on the kitchen tiles The party going on with people stepping over our bodies I held you so tight as though you could save my life Now you're gone We were young Yeah we were young and stupid We were only human. Let us be! We were young Yeah we were young and stupid We were only human, trying to be free.

about

Written, recorded and painstakingly mixed over the last four years, Disappearing Man is 53mph's third 'official' album of songs. Drawing on memories of lost youth, encroaching tech, and the sensation of a disappearing voice in an insane world that no longer makes much sense, each song tells its own coded tale telegraphed directly from my soul, whether in the first person or not. That's not to take away from the music though. This album experiments with sounds and mixing techniques not previously used in my music: heavy hand percussion transformed into deep beats (I should have seen it coming) , pitch-shifted vocals (Disappearing man), ambient found sounds (Girlfriend on a train). Not to mention the alternative tunings used on track such as I Keep a Little Light On, Semaphore or Love Sick Sputnik, tailor made for each recording, plus some finger-picking to rival the likes of Jim O'Rourke.
This may be the last full album under the title of 53mph, so enjoy before it disappears.
